Tax provisioning by extractive industry multinational subsidiaries

Extractive industries are spread across mining of metal and minerals, oil gas, among others. Multinationals in these sectors confronted with different challenges ranging from corruption, political risk, economic uncertainty, sunk costs, the long-gestation periods to execute projects. As a result, tax payment behaviour subsidiaries extractive sector could be dependent not only on factors, but also life cycle subsidiary, profitability, holding structure. Furthermore, emerging economy multinationals state-owned may invest foreign for strategic reasons. We examine provision host countries by India’s multinational industry. Panel data analysis is carried out period 2010–20. It found that remains lower initial years subsidiary increases sustenance country longer period. In addition, public enterprises have higher provisions than their private counterparts. When it comes determinants, policy stability significantly affect provision.
